When we think about sharing our faith, it’s easy to equate inviting someone to church with sharing the gospel. While both are important, there is a crucial difference between offering someone a seat in a building and offering them the life-changing gift of salvation in Jesus Christ.
Church Is a Place, Christ Is the Savior
Church is the community where believers gather, worship, and grow. It is vital. But church attendance alone does not save a soul. Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.”
Our primary mission isn’t to fill pews — it’s to point people to the Savior.
Inviting vs. Introducing
Inviting someone to church is a good start but introducing them to Jesus is the goal. Imagine offering someone a map (church) without telling them about the treasure (Christ). Without knowing the person of Jesus, church can feel like another social event rather than the beginning of eternal life.
The Gospel Is Personal
Sharing the gospel means telling people about who Jesus is, why He came, and how He offers forgiveness, hope, and new life. It’s personal. Romans 10:9 reminds us, "If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."
What We Must Remember
Church is where we grow.
Salvation is the foundation we must first lay.
Both are needed, but salvation must come first.
When we focus first on sharing Christ — His sacrifice, His resurrection, and His love — we give people the true hope they need. After that, church becomes a home for the saved, not a substitute for salvation.
A Powerful Question to Ask Yourself:
"Am I inviting people to a building, or am I introducing them to the Savior?"
Let’s be bold in sharing the greatest news the world has ever heard Christ alone saves. Church helps us grow.
